Steel wall pools

When planning a new inground pool you will have to consider your options since there are several different types of swimming pool construction.

Steel wall pools are becoming a popular pool construction method because of its several advantages. These pools are halfway between concrete pools and prefabricated pools since the bottom is made of concrete and the walls of galvanised steel. Once the pieces have been assembled, the onsite lining with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN can take place.

Let’s have a look at the advantages of this panel-based pool building method!

  • Unlike prefabricated pools, there is free choice of shape and size since the panels can be adapted to every single project.
  • It has a more competitive price compared to concrete pools.
  • More installation accuracy than other construction techniques.
  • Less assembly time than other pool construction methods. The installation of a standard pool takes about 7 days including the excavation.
  • No crane is needed to lift the pool unlike fiberglass pools.
  • Because of their reduced weight, they are perfect for penthouses and flat roofs.

Many advantages indeed! Planning on building your own pool? Are you considering the pros and cons of a steel wall pool? Well, at least it’s worth to give it a thought. Meanwhile have a look at this video so that you can get the picture of how the it’s assembled.

Pool orientation

Pool orientation

Pool orientation

In small gardens or backyards, we do not always have the opportunity to choose the location and orientation of our future pool. On the other hand, in many other cases the homeowner can choose among different places in order to build the leisure space.

When thinking about building a new pool many questions may arise regarding the pool orientation. Do I have to place it where there is more sunlight?  Should I keep it far away from trees and plants so that the leaves do not fall inside? Will my pool get dirtier if I do not consider the prevailing wind directions?

The correct answer is that both sun and wind are an important factor when selecting the perfect spot for your pool. So, it should be a sunny spot, far from trees and plants and facing towards the prevailing wind direction of the specific loaction.

Let the sunshine in!

Considering the amount of sunlight and shade is critical to choose your pool orientation. Not only should you consider how many hours of sunlight and at what time of the day but also how the house itself or the surrounding landscape elements will cast shadow onto the pool.

Do not forget that after or before diving into your pool, you will want to lie down on the pool deck in order to get a tan. So, try to get as much sunlight as posible. The colour and brightness of the water will also look differently. The less sun the pool gets, the less bright will its colour shine. If you have small children or a sensitive skin, you may also need to consider providing some shading with a sunshade or a pergola, for example.

Branches and leaves

Plants and trees are a fantastic element in any garden because they cool the environment, but when there is also a pool they can be hassle. Think about what kind of plantings you would like to have around your pool and choose the ones with the minimal leaf drop. This way you’ll have a low-maintenance relationship with your pool. Consulting a good landscape gardener will always be a good help.

Where to place the skimmers?

And last but not least, we have to think about where to place the skimmers because it will save us a lot of maintenance time. Skimmers helps to clean the pool water by capturing floating dirt such as flowers, leaves or dead insects. They should also face the predominating wind direction and the eye ball jets just in front of it. If it’s a rectangular pool, they should be placed on the small walls. This way we’ll keep dirt from building up on the corners of the bottom and on the floating line. Do not protect the skimmers from the wind!

We understand that sometimes there are limited options because of the existing building or the space available for the new pool.  Of course the optimal situation is when you are designing your new house and you can start the building of the pool from zero. Anyway, we recommend you contacting a reliable pool builder who will help you with this important decision.

Differences between reinforced pool liners

Differences between reinforced pool liners

Differences between reinforced pool liners. Not all are the same!

When a product is good there are always copycat businesses coming up. The inevitable happens, but there is no such thing as a free lunch.

That a product looks like another one and that it sells at a lower price doesn’t mean that the quality is the same as the original one. There are indeed differences between reinforced pool liners. RENOLIT always has to deal with copycat businesses, but you shouldn’t let yourself be fooled. All products that take advantage of this successful situation do not have either the technical features characteristic of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN or its quality standards.

That means that once the “mirror” has been installed, it will deteriorate after a while, it will lose its colour and texture and will have to be replaced shortly after. That is without mentioning how annoyed the poor pool owner will be after realising the cheat.

How to detect it?

There are different ways of knowing whether the pool lining that is being installed is RENOLIT ALKORPLAN or not.

  • You get what you pay for. Price normally indicates whether the lining that’s being installed in your pool is good or not. As already pointed out here, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

  • Comparisons are odious. In both our blog and in the shops of our authorised pool builders there are catalogues, pictures and sample books of our real product so that you can touch it. It is good to compare what the installer is offering you with pictures of our product in order to make sure that the reinforced liner we are being offered is the original one.

  • Online presence. In our social media we provide comprehensive information on our product with pictures of pool projects from companies and customers, testimonial videos, tutorials and pieces of advice on RENOLIT ALKORPLAN reinforced membrane. Our online presence and transparency makes the difference in comparison with our competitors.

  • The back. Either if you are an installer or an end customer, when you receive our product please make sure that RENOLIT ALKORPLAN is printed on the back. This guarantees that it is indeed the original product with all its benefits.

The green lagoon of Portomaso residential complex

Portomaso is an exclusive beachfront residential area which covers 128,000 sqm, surrounded by a marina for yachts with 110 berths. A magnificent 1.6 km stretch of sea face.

Located in St. Julians on Malta, the project owners expected it to be one of the most renowned residencies in the Mediterranean… and indeed they made it! They have turned it into a first class project with high quality standards regarding real state in Malta. The green lagoon located in the middle of the complex is the perfect eye-catcher.

The project includes the 5 star hotel Hilton Malta, a beach club, a health and leisure centre, an office building, a conference centre and several shops and restaurants. The star of the group of buildings is the central green lagoon, where ground floor residents have direct access to. This huge 6,000 m2 swimming pool has been lined with our reinforced membrane RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH RELAX green.

This reinforced pool liner was exclusively designed for this specific project. The owner of the building was looking for a green version of ALKORPLAN TOUCH. He didn’t want to give up the characteristics of a 3D print inspired by nature, but in a green version.

Both construction and installation were carried out by DOLPHIN POOLS, our distributor in Malta. It took almost two years from the start of the negotiations until the final definition of the project, including how our special TOUCH RELAX should look like for this luxury residential project.

Likewise, a specific liquid PVC had to be developed in order to seal the seams in the same color of the reinforced membrane. The ALKORPLAN TOUCH pool liner was installed in stages and took approximately one month.
