The new glue for expanded polystyrene specific for pools

Nowadays there are new pool building techniques, which are simpler and quicker and that do not require a construction work. The latest trend in pool construction are the pools made of expanded polystyrene or EPS.

The use of polystyrene blocks or EPS filled with reinforced concrete has become widespread in the construction industry because it lightens certain building structures. But it is particularly in the pool building sector that it offers the most benefits in terms of endurance and construction speed.

It is very often the chosen material in multi-storey buildings where weight plays a major role in the construction. Furthermore, because of its high isulation value, this material gives a complete termal isulation. Thus, it should be noted that building a swimming pool using expanded polystyrene blocks is not only a more affordable alternative but also more energy efficient thanks to low running costs.

Apart from this, it is worth mentioning that expanded polystyrene or EPS avoids the growth of bacteria and fungi making it an ideal material for pool construction. Moreover this material is used not only for leveling the pool, but also for building steps or seats.

Expanded polystyrene blocks are lighter, cleaner and quicker to install than traditional bricks forming any boundary and shape of your pool design. Afterwards, only the installation of a RENOLIT ALKORPLAN on-site liner will be necessary in order to waterproof the swimming pool, thus saving the construction time of your pool.

For all that, RENOLIT has launched on the market the new RENOLIT ALKORGLUE zero solvents for geotextile fleece, which is specifically designed for not damaging the expanded polystyrene blocks used in the pool construction industry.

Thanks to the fact that it is solvent-free, not only is it not aggressive to the polystyrene blocks used for building swimming pools but it is also ideal for fixing RENOLIT ALKORPLAN fungicide pool felt underlay before installing RENOLIT ALKORPLAN reinforced membrane, the ultimate on-site pool liner.

Since the drying time is more than half an hour, small mistakes, which may occur when placing the pool felt underlay, can be corrected immediately without damaging it.

The RENOLIT ALKORPLAN pool felt underlay is a blue non-woven fabric of 400 g polypropylene fibres, which have undergone a fungicide treatment in order to avoid the proliferation of fungi and algae. This felt is installed directly on the walls and the bottom of the pool before the on-site lining takes place, and among other purposes, it helps make the bathers steps more comfortable.

In case the chosen pattern is RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH and butt welding must be carried out on the floor, installing pool felt underlay is unavoidable. Even if one of its main purposes is to avoid stain formation thanks to its fungicide treatment, using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN geotextile has also an aesthetic purpose. The result is a completely smooth surface because the felt underlay levels any small irregularities of the ground out. It is thus the right partner for pool refurbishments and renovations.

The new RENOLIT ALKORGLUE Zero Solvents glue is non-flammable and can be applied either wet, semi-wet or as contact glue. It should be applied with a spatula, serrated depending on the surface. No mixing is necessary. Since it is slow-drying, by applying pressure with a roller any grooves or air pockets will be removed. Stains or traces of wet RENOLIT ALKORGLUE Zero Solvents can be easily removed with water.

Pool colour combination. How does it work?

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN pool linig is supplied in rolls and it’s the pool builder or installer who cuts the reinforced membrane and welds it on site according to your pool dimensions and form.

This type of pool lining is thus custom-made. The customer can choose among different patterns and combine them as she or he wishes in order to create a unique swimming pool. Often the steps colour is different from the walls or the bottom colour. This way the steps are more visible and it makes the access to the pool easier.

Both RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH and CERAMICS are frequently used for this purpose because of their one-of-a-kind 2 mm thickness, slip resistance and 3D-effect. A particular way of pool colour combination is to line the steps 4 cm over the edge. That way it will look like natural stone.

Don’t put limits to your creativity! It’s a common practice in both wellness centers and modern bathrooms. If you also line the bottom of your pool with another pool liner colour you’ll create more depth.

Thanks to RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH you bring the natural stone effect from the surroundings into your pool and have also the advantage of using the robotic pool cleaner not that often.

There are hundreds of different pool colour combinations and there’s no accounting for taste. Nonetheless, there are a few points to take into account when choosing the colour of your pool lining.

Temperature
Darker colours absorb more heat. The water temperature between a lighter and a darker on site lining fluctuates between 1 to 2 degrees.

The pool water colour
Depending on the exposure to sun light and the depth, the pool water colour will be mainly determined by the colour of your pool lining: clear water, light blue shades, wild and mysterious pool water, turquoise water… And of course when combining different pool lining colours, you’ll obtain different pool water colours in the same pool.

House and garden
How does your house look like? And your garden? What kind of pool deck do you have? You have to take into consideration the surroundings when choosing the best colour for your pool.

Take a look at some examples of pool colour combinations and if you are still a sea of doubts, then it’s time to get in touch with a professional pool builder.

Pool leaks

Pool leaks

“My pool is leaking!”. Pool leaks are one of the biggest concerns of any pool owner. Actually we do understand why it’s so scary. Let’s do some maths!

How do you calculate the water loss per day in a pool?

Kerry and John have a 10 x 5 metre pool with a 1.5 m, depth. How much water does the pool hold? If the pool loses 2 cm per day, how much water does the pool lose each day?

 Pool water volume calculation

length x width x depth = 10 x 5 x 1.5 = 75 cubic meters of water.

That’s to say 75,000 litres.

Calculating the pool water loss per day because of a leak

length x width x water loss (mm) = 10 x 5 x 0.02 = 1 cubic meter of water

That’s to say 1,000 litres per day! 😱😱😱

A leak in a 10 x 5 m pool, where the water loss is only 2 cm equals to a daily water loss of 1,000 litres, that’s to say…

Launderings

Showers

Baths

Types of pool leaks

  • caused by damaged pool equipment, whose detection is easy by performing a plumbing pressure test
  • or leaks in the pool shell, which are harder to find.

Consequences of pool leaks

an economic cost

an environmental impact

if the pool leak doesn’t get solved it could result in serious damage to the surrounding areas and structures

  • Tiled pools require high-maintenance. When grout lines wash out or ceramic tiles get detached, it can lead to pool leaks.
  • Fiberglass pools (one-piece pools) are also keen to have leaks because of cracks. During its manufacture, air bubbles can remain between the coatings and when it’s filled up, the stress caused to the shell can cause cracks. These pool leaks aren’t easy to find.
  • Concrete pools may have cracks due to foundation or ground movements or big temperature differences.

Reinventing tiled pools

Reinventing tiled pools

Reinventing tiled pools

Tiled pools are an absolute eye-catcher. Without a doubt! Nonetheless, not always feasible depending on the latitude.

Tiled pools are very popular in Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Portugal. This predilection for ceramic tiles is probably part of the heritage 700 years of Muslim domain left in the Iberian peninsula. It all happened though a few centuries ago and times change.

Even if tiled pools are a fancy pool lining option, they imply a few disadvantages. Regarding maintenance, ceramic tiles are a high-maintenance product. Not only become grout lines dirty easily but also they are prone to algae once they are washed out. Pool linings on the other hand require low-maintenance and are easy to clean.

Another disadvantage tiled pools have are detached ceramic tiles. Is there a crack in the pool? Then it isn’t watertight anymore. Furthermore, mosaic tiles that fall off can be dangerous for bathers because they can cut their feet when passing by.

Do you still want to have the aesthetics of a tiled pool in your garden? We have the solution for you! RENOLIT ALKORPLAN CERAMICS is a slip-resistant, 2 mm thick on site lining with the aesthetics of the ancient temples of classical Greece. It looks like ceramic tiles but with all the advantages that a reinforced membrane offers.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Pool Felt Underlay

Everything you need to know about the original blue pool geotextile!

Pool felt underlay, also known as pool geotextile is a technical term that we frequently use when talking about pool lining or pool refurbishment. But what is it exactly? What are the advantages of using a pool felt underlay in combination with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN onsite lining?

What are the advantages of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Pool Felt Underlay?

This pool felt underlay is a blue non-woven fabric which has undergone a fungicide treatment. This felt is installed directly on the walls and the bottom of the pool before the on-site lining takes place. It’s made of  400 g polypropylene fibres with fungicide treatment, which avoids the proliferation of fungi and algae. Apart from this, natural antibacteria addivites made of metal ions take care of an ongoing antibacterial effect.

True beauty is inside

Even though the pool felt underlay is only visible during the installation of the pool liner because this last one covers it completely, pools are equipped with this non-woven fabric. It’s important to install geotextile fabric when on-site lining is carried out.

In case of butt welding, installing pool felt underlay is unavoidable. Even if one of its main purposes is to avoid stain formation thanks to its fungicide treatment, using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN geotextile has also an aesthetic purpose. The result is a completely smooth surface because the felt underlay levels any small irregularities of the ground out.

Much more comfortable feel for bathers

Taking into account that we go swimming barefoot, we shouldn’t forget our feet. Why not to give your feet a treat? RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Geotextile makes the bathers steps more comfortable.

Keep the cold away

As soon as it gets warm we want our pool water temperature to be perfect, that’s to say: not too warm, not too cold. Thanks to the 400 g densitiy of the pool felt underlay, it functions as an insulating material and stores heat for a longer period of time, whereby up to 2 ºC more can be reached.

Does your pool need refurbishment? Would like to build a pool in your garden? Do not forget to ask for the unique antibacterial pool felt underlay: the only light blue one labelled with the trademark RENOLIT ALKORPLAN. It will upgrade your swimming pool in many aspects.
