The same Elegance, a new texture

The same Elegance, a new texture

The same Elegance, a new texture

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Elegance has reinvented itself and is now two-in-one. And what’s more, its beauty, colour and grace remain the same. RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Elegance is at last slip-resistant.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH, the leading lining system, with 3D texture inspired by nature and 2 mm thickness for greater durability and resistance has bound the circle. RENOLIT wants the whole TOUCH range not only to be beautiful and watertight, but also to be safe for swimmers.

Now all the designs of the TOUCH product range are slip-resistant. This way it will not be necessary to take a supplementary anti-slip reinforced membrane for the access and low-water areas, ramps or steps in order to avoid accidents or slips among bathers.

The required certification in public pools is “C category”. And it is also also recommended in private pools: in transit areas, ramps, zero-entries, low-water areas and steps. Now the whole TOUCH product range is provided with the slip-resistance “C” category certification.

Until now this was possible with all the TOUCH designs except for the Elegance, whose installation required a slip-resistant membrane apart from the main product. Finally this is not required anymore!

This upgrade does not alter either the colour or the tonality of the reinforced membrane. The gorgeous deep blue watercolour still looks the same.  Such a beautiful and characteristic colour that it has turned the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Elegance on-site liner into one of the flagship designs of the product range.

New design TOUCH Origin

New design TOUCH Origin

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH, the range of reinforced pool membranes inspired in nature, the most resistant and long-lasting on the market thanks to their 2 mm thickness, officially presents the design that will set trends this summer: Origin.

Origin is the on site pool liner inspired in one of the most elegant and imperishable stones we can find on our beloved Planet Earth, in rivers, mountains, forests … granite.

Granite, a timeless and indestructible rock, which humanity has used on countless occasions to construct its most emblematic buildings and outstanding monuments, for its nobility and elegance.

Like the rest of the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH range, Origin is a totally innovative and original design that has all the characteristics of quality, beauty, watertightness and resistance offered by the rest of the TOUCH range.

TOUCH Origin, with its visual appearance and spectacular touch, has a granitic texture that everyone knows, and thanks to its combination of black and grey spots on a white background it gives the water a brilliant metallic blue colour with sparkling grey highlights.

Characteristics and installation

In regard to its installation, we want to point out that Origin is an ideal design for membrane installers who have little or no experience, because thanks to its granite pattern any irregularities in the basin are attenuated and its joints are quite discreet.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Origin has extraordinary flexibility to adapt to any shape of the basin, making installation quick and simple. It has a “C” grade slipperiness certificate, and like all RENOLIT ALKORPLAN pool liners it offers a written 10-year watertightness guarantee.

It is suitable for installing with overlap welds, like the rest of the TOUCH range, although for an impeccable finish, on the floor we recommend the butt welding technique because, in addition, Origin is perfect for concealing joints and dissimulating any imperfection in the pool.

Tile pool repair

Tile pool repair

Tile pool repair

This cracked and leaking pool located in Marbella needed an urgent repair. Poor construction and ground movement were to blame.

The pool had cracked across the width and from the middle towards one corner, what caused water leaks in the structure.  When the structure is leaking, regrouting or replacing the glass mosaic tiles will not help since they are not waterproof.

Traditional tile pool repair based on using repair mortar or filling the cracks with silicone does not prove successful in the long term. You have to deal with the underlying problem because if the ground moves slightly again, the crack will reopen.

Once a pool starts cracking, there is no turning back: it needs to be repaired quickly to prevent more damage in the structure itself or even in the surrounding area. Not only will the steel in the structure become exposed and will start to corrode, but also will the water running under the pool structure soften the ground. Thus, the problem will further aggravate.

To sum up, even though mosaic tiled pools are an absolute eye-catcher, this pool lining option implies a series of disadvantages including dirty grout lines, loose or broken tiles, cut feel and difficult maintenance. RENOLIT ALKORPLAN CERAMICS, on the other hand, requires low-maintenance, is easy to clean and provides the beautiful finish of tiled pools.

Piscina Liner are pool specialists in Andalusia and Algarve with many years of experience in repairing cracked and leaking pools. Whenever they deal with a tile pool repair where the customer does not want to give up this aesthetic finish, they recommend RENOLIT ALKORPLAN CERAMICS.

“No more loose tiles, sharp edges, leaks and difficult maintenance.”

Piscina Liner

Applying a RENOLIT ALKORPLAN reinforced membrane over the existing pool shell creates a barrier for the water and is guaranteed to be waterproof. In this specific case, the landlords chose the distinguished light grey ALKORPLAN CERAMICS Selene in order to undergo the tile pool repair. Pools do not always have to be blue! All the beauty of a tiled pool with none of the downsides of a tiled pool.

Pool lined with ALKORPLAN TOUCH Prestige

Pool lined with ALKORPLAN TOUCH Prestige

Ever heard of the Slovene Riviera? The beautiful coastline of Slovenia is located on the Gulf of Trieste, by the Adriatic Sea. A charming location with charming households like this wonderful one embellished with a pool lined with ALKORPLAN TOUCH Prestige.

A private house located in the seaside resort and spa town of Portorose (Portorož), whose owners were having problems with the previous lining system, which had been installed back in 2005. The old 1.5 mm blue liner had been wrongly installed, what caused water leaks on many spots.

Spambient, a pool building company from Slovenia specialised in swimming pools and whirlpools was in charge of the complete pool repair on this occasion. Refurbishing a pool lined with reinforced membrane is very easy and it will not take more than a few days depending on the pool dimensions. That is exactly one of the many advantages of the on site lining: simple installation without additional building work.

Since the previous lining had also had problems of colour fading, this time the landlords opted for a pool lined with ALKORPLAN TOUCH Prestige: a 2 mm thick pool liner inspired by nature provided with great durability. A 3D relief which reproduces volcanic rock and perfectly matches with the red-coloured façade and the surrounding pool deck.

The 13.5 x 5.8 m overflow pool with a variable depth which ranges from 1.4 to 2.1 m, has four inbuilt underwater windows, an unusual but impressive pool design. It is also equiped with water attractions, a submerged pool roller cover and an inverter driven heat pump.

In a nutshell, a pool that stands out not only because of its wonderful setting with gorgeous seaview, but also because of the pool characteristics, that make it unique.

Pool lining for spas

Only pioneers dare to try new applications for already existing products. We are very thankful for the never-ending thirst for innovation of our customers.

Gleomar Piscinas, a swimming pool builder from Gran Canaria was commissioned to build the spa of the Hotel Bohemia Suites & Spa. In order to do so they tested for the first time RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH pool linings for spas not only on the basin but also on the adjacent walls and showers.

Many pool builders are sceptical about lining spas with on-site liners because of the high water temperatures. The pool builder form the Canary Islands was, in contrast, completeley convinced that RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH is a suitable pool lining for spas.

Both pool and whirlpool tub were lined with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Vanity whereas the walls were lined with TOUCH Elegance. The shower walls were also on-site lined. In order to guarantee the watertighness not only was the reinforced pool liner glued with dispersion adhesive  but also welded.

The outcome of this colour combination is impressive. 150 sqm of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH Vanity and 24 sqm of ALKORPLAN TOUCH Elegance were needed in order to line the 50 cbm the spa takes up.

Why should you choose ALKORPLAN TOUCH as your pool lining for spas?

2 mm thickness

Thanks to its 2 mm thickness, it is the most resistant on-site liner in the market and, thus, the perfect pool lining for spas.

The DPD testing

The DPD testing

Water treatment in pools. The DPD testing.

Dosing chlorine correctly is a key factor in water treatment in pools. Let’s have a look at the world’s most common method.

The DPD testing is one of the most common methods for measuring chlorine levels. The acronym DPD stands for N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine. This method was first introduced by Dr. Palin, a German chemist, in 1957. It’s a simple procedure where we measure the colour depth of the reaction between the chlorine and the DPD reagent.

The use of chlorine in swimming pool disinfection is very usual and pool keepers need to control it very carefully in order to prevent infections while minimising eye irritation. How to make it possible? By keeping the combined chlorine residual as low as possible. No clue what I am talking about? Let’s take it step by step.

First of all, there are different types of chlorine present in pools. Swimming pool water generally contains three types of chlorine known as free chlorine, combined chlorine and total chlorine. You get the total chlorine by adding the free chlorine to the combined chlorine.

    • Free chlorine is the chlorine that is still available to disinfect your pool water.

    • Combined chlorine is the chlorine that has already been used to disinfect the water. It is thus combined with organic matter and responsible for the annoying smell of chlorine.

    • The total chlorine is the sum of the two.

Once the free chlorine has joined with microorganisms, its ability to disinfect decreases. Actually 25 parts of Combined Chlorine are needed to do the sanitising work of one part of Free Chlorine. The Total Chlorine level must be higher than the Free Chlorine level.

With the help of a DPD test kit in the form of tablets or drops, you can measure the pH, free chlorine and total chlorine levels by comparing the resulting pink colour with a colour scale.

Is the DPD method an effective way of controlling the water quality?

The DPD testing is indeed an effective method in order to measure the chlorine level in our pool. The only problem is that DPD not only reacts with chlorine but also with other oxidizing agents such as bromine, iodine or ozone. Its levels in private pools are though almost non-significant.

There are a few issues that you could come up with when reading the chlorine levels:

    • Unclear water can result in a darker colour

    • A dirty cuvette

    • A wrong calibration of the photometer

    • Expired test reagent

In order to avoid misleading measurements, it is important to get a large enough sample. We recommend to take at least 5 different samples, reject the highest and the lowest one and calculate the median of the 3 remaining values.

Follow these simple steps in order to keep your pool disinfection under control and enjoy your bathing season without eye irritation.

The new glue for expanded polystyrene specific for pools

The new glue for expanded polystyrene specific for pools

The new glue for expanded polystyrene specific for pools

Nowadays there are new pool building techniques, which are simpler and quicker and that do not require a construction work. The latest trend in pool construction are the pools made of expanded polystyrene or EPS.

The use of polystyrene blocks or EPS filled with reinforced concrete has become widespread in the construction industry because it lightens certain building structures. But it is particularly in the pool building sector that it offers the most benefits in terms of endurance and construction speed.

It is very often the chosen material in multi-storey buildings where weight plays a major role in the construction. Furthermore, because of its high isulation value, this material gives a complete termal isulation. Thus, it should be noted that building a swimming pool using expanded polystyrene blocks is not only a more affordable alternative but also more energy efficient thanks to low running costs.

Apart from this, it is worth mentioning that expanded polystyrene or EPS avoids the growth of bacteria and fungi making it an ideal material for pool construction. Moreover this material is used not only for leveling the pool, but also for building steps or seats.

Expanded polystyrene blocks are lighter, cleaner and quicker to install than traditional bricks forming any boundary and shape of your pool design. Afterwards, only the installation of a RENOLIT ALKORPLAN on-site liner will be necessary in order to waterproof the swimming pool, thus saving the construction time of your pool.

For all that, RENOLIT has launched on the market the new RENOLIT ALKORGLUE zero solvents for geotextile fleece, which is specifically designed for not damaging the expanded polystyrene blocks used in the pool construction industry.

Thanks to the fact that it is solvent-free, not only is it not aggressive to the polystyrene blocks used for building swimming pools but it is also ideal for fixing RENOLIT ALKORPLAN fungicide pool felt underlay before installing RENOLIT ALKORPLAN reinforced membrane, the ultimate on-site pool liner.

Since the drying time is more than half an hour, small mistakes, which may occur when placing the pool felt underlay, can be corrected immediately without damaging it.

The RENOLIT ALKORPLAN pool felt underlay is a blue non-woven fabric of 400 g polypropylene fibres, which have undergone a fungicide treatment in order to avoid the proliferation of fungi and algae. This felt is installed directly on the walls and the bottom of the pool before the on-site lining takes place, and among other purposes, it helps make the bathers steps more comfortable.

In case the chosen pattern is RENOLIT ALKORPLAN TOUCH and butt welding must be carried out on the floor, installing pool felt underlay is unavoidable. Even if one of its main purposes is to avoid stain formation thanks to its fungicide treatment, using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN geotextile has also an aesthetic purpose. The result is a completely smooth surface because the felt underlay levels any small irregularities of the ground out. It is thus the right partner for pool refurbishments and renovations.

The new RENOLIT ALKORGLUE Zero Solvents glue is non-flammable and can be applied either wet, semi-wet or as contact glue. It should be applied with a spatula, serrated depending on the surface. No mixing is necessary. Since it is slow-drying, by applying pressure with a roller any grooves or air pockets will be removed. Stains or traces of wet RENOLIT ALKORGLUE Zero Solvents can be easily removed with water.

Panorama swimming pool in the Alps

Panorama swimming pool in the Alps

Panorama swimming pool in the Alps

The „Gruebi-Bad“ was inaugurated back in 1931. The hoteliers of Adelboden joined forces in order to build a 50m panorama swimming pool to seasonally adjust the tourism in this Swiss region.

They commissioned the architect Beda Hefti in order to build this panorama swimming pool. He had already taken part in the construction of Alpine swimming pools in Interlaken and Gstaadt, and designed a functional, high-quality open-air swimming pool following a timeless style and fitting it into the hillside.

Today, almost 90 years later, and after a complete refurbishment, this panorama swimming pool looks like it used to be on its opening day in 1931. Nonetheless, in 2011 it was close to a shutdown because the citizens of Adelboden rejected the refurbishment project, but luckily another refurbishment proposal in 2016 was accepted.

The last refurbishment of the panorama swimming pool took place in 2004 and limited itself to reducing the size of the pool to 25m because of the landslide. Since then the „Gruebi-Bad” was just the half of what it originally was and both diving platform and band shell had been removed.

In 2018 the panorama swimming pool was closed in order to start the refurbishing. Taking into account that the whole facility is under a preservation order, the following refurbishment works took place:

  • Renovation of the sanitary facilities.
  • Adjustment of the swimming-pool technology.
  • Rebuilding the children’s pool to its original round form.
  • Pool basin extension to its original 50 m and repairing the wall cracks.
  • Pool relining with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN XTREME Silver by the Swiss on-site liner installer Kiwi GmbH.
  • Rebuilding of both diving platform and band shell.
  • Mounting a one-of-a-kind overflow gutter.

Taking into account that this panorama swimming pool is located on a landslide where there is danger of slipping and it moves every year downhill, the architects of Architekturbüro Akkurat Bauatelier had to come up with an ingenious idea to solve this construction challenge. The gutter watergate had to be adjustable, so that the water would uniformly drain in spite of the inclined location of the pool.

The alignment with the original design from Beda Hefti has given back its genuine splendour to the Gruebi-Bad since it now corresponds to the original state from 1931 except for some small details. We wish lots of fun to all the citizens of Adelboden and visitors in this reopened swimming pool, which is by the way one of the few 50 m open-air swimming pools in the Swiss Alps.
